Application not found in tenant

Entra reports the Teams app is not registered in the tenant. Common with guest accounts or migrated tenants.

  • AADSTS500011 with 'resource principal not found'
  • Teams reports 'This app is not activated in your tenant'
  • Other corporate apps work

Possible causes

  • Teams service principal missing from tenant
  • Tenant migration incomplete
  • Guest account lacking Teams permissions
  • Admin disabled Teams for the user group

Solutions

1.Talk to IT

  1. This message is almost always an admin configuration.

  2. Ask IT to check 'Microsoft Teams Services' as a service principal in the Entra admin center.

  3. If missing, the admin must re-create the service principal.

2.Sign in to the correct tenant

  1. If you are a member of multiple tenants, make sure you sign into the right one.

  2. Click 'Accounts and tenants' bottom-left and select the correct tenant.

3.Re-connect the account

  1. Quit Teams and remove the account under Windows Settings, 'Access work or school'.

  2. Reboot and add the account again.

AADSTS500011 cannot be solved with cache resets or other end-user tricks. This is a question for identity administration.
